For almost 24 years I have called Montgomery County my home.

I came to this great nation of ours in August 1981 to attend Walsh University (formerly Walsh College) in North Canton, Ohio and earned my Bachelor degree with triple majors in Accounting, Finance and Management. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with honors and notable mentions on the Dean’s List as well as playing collegiate soccer during my 3-year studies – all without any scholarships!

Upon graduation from Walsh University, I went on to attend Cleveland State University and earned my Masters degree in Accountancy and Financial Information Systems (MAFIS) with dual majors in Accounting and Financial/Computer Information Systems. I completed my graduate schoolwork in 18 months.

I completed the Ohio Certified Public Accountants (CPA) examination and have been a licensed CPA to public practice since 1987.

I started as an intern with Deloitte LLP (formerly Touche Ross & Co. – a forerunner to Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu) in Cleveland, and was transferred to the Dayton office in July 1986 and have lived in Montgomery County ever since. I rose to the rank of Audit Senior. In my final years at Deloitte, I became the resident audit senior liaison between my firm and The Mead Corporation through its Internal Audit Department, then the office’s largest client. I was also the Division Controller for Mead Realty Group, Inc.

I left Deloitte in November 1992 to start my own company, Western TradeWinds, Inc. The company offices are located in Miamisburg, Ohio. As president and general manager, my responsibilities include operations management and directing activities of our wholly owned divisions. These divisions are primarily involved in the domestic distribution of industrial equipment and supplies to industrial, commercial and government agency accounts (United States, NATO and Foreign Military Sales), military packaging, warehousing and worldwide logistics.

As your county auditor, I will work to create fair and equitable real estate tax assessments, promote open government, and save the taxpayers’ money.

Fair and Equitable Property Tax Assessments

Make assessment information available on-line for speedy dispute resolutions

Impartial and fair citizen hearings

Use local licensed appraisers and systems for consistent assessments

Open and Balanced Government

Fresh approach to County government

Make major County expenditures and disbursements visible to the public (on-line)

User friendly access to Auditor’s Office and records

Save Taxpayers’ Money

Reduce Auditor’s Office operating costs

Use local available resources and spend locally

Work with other County departments to reduce redundancies

For more information, please visit my website at <a

In 1987 he joined the family business, Boord-Henne Insurance Agency, and currently owns it with his brother, Steve. The agency has been protecting businesses and families in the area for over 40 years and Mike is a respected member of the insurance community having earned the designation as a Certified Insurance Counselor.

Mike has been married to another graduate of Northmont, Jenny, for 22 years where they live in Clayton and are raising their four children: Amanda a senior at Miami University, Rebecca a junior at Ohio University, Matthew a senior at Chaminade-Julienne High School and Nicholas soon to attend St. Christopher in Vandalia.

Politics have always been a passion for Mike, so when Rep. Seth Morgan decided to run for the Auditor’s office it was the perfect opportunity to follow his passion and become a State Representative. Thru the years, he has been actively involved in many church and community leadership positions, serving on the Education Commission and Precious Blood Parrish Counsel. He was also very involved in the local youth soccer program where he has served several positions, including the president.

This campaign has afforded Mike the opportunity to put actions behind the words. So many people can be critical of their elected officials and it easy to complain about or to feel disenfranchised by the system, but it takes leadership to enter the arena of public scrutiny in order to make a difference. Mike decided that it was time for him to put his ideas into action and feels that his experience in the business community can be of great value in shaping the Districts future in economic development and the creation of jobs.

As a business owner, Mike has seen how the decisions made in Washington and Columbus directly affect the business community. Regulations and taxes directly affect the ability of businesses to make a profit and create jobs. He understands what it means to work within the limits of a budget, what it means to have people depend on his good decision making for their livelihood and knows that we cannot spend our way out of financial trouble. As a business owner, Mike is very clear in his understanding that eventually the bills will have to be paid.

“I hope to bring a commonsense, businesslike approach to the government which is sorely needed. If we can reduce the size of the government, minimize the intrusion into our businesses and households, Ohioans can once again prosper, create jobs and lead this nation’s recovery. I believe in changing the opinion that politicians promise one thing and fail to deliver more often that not. I promise to put the interests of Ohioans in the forefront and to be true to my conservative ideals.”

For more information, please visit Mike’s website at www.mikehenne.com. He would appreciate your vote on Tuesday, November 2nd.

Candidate Profile: Terry Blair for State Representative, 38th District

Campaign

Candidates

General

38th District

Candidate

Profile

State Representative
<guid

I serve as ranking member on the Local Government/Public Administration committee, as well as a member of Commerce and Labor; Housing and Urban Revitalization; and Ways and Means committees.

Previous to joining the Ohio House, I served as a Washington Township trustee for 21 years. In addition to my work in the legislature, I am CEO of Buckeye Pools, Inc. I am involved is such organizations as Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners, Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, Noon Optimist Club of Centerville and American Business Club of Dayton. I am also a member of the Church of the Incarnation.

I hold a master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and previously served as past president of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Dayton. My wife Judy and I live in Washington Township. We are very proud of our family of four children and seven grandchildren.

I have a strongly held belief in “limited government”. The purpose of government is to protect individual liberty, freedom and rights, and, to provide those services that are best provided collectively. Certainly, there is a delicate balance that is difficult to achieve when government, at all levels, attempts to achieve its purpose. I recall many a zoning hearing as trustee, where I would try, in my own simple way, to let the involved parties and interested citizens at the hearing know that the basis of this zoning hearing was to arbitrate conflicting property rights. I agree with many who believe that the majority of citizens of this nation just want government to do its job, fulfill its purpose and stay out of their personal lives to let them pursue their own happiness as they see fit.

My simple belief is that I have been elected to a position of trust by the citizens that I serve. A position in which I have been entrusted: to make decisions on behalf of the citizens of my district and of our state; with the fiduciary responsibility to effectively operate the people’s business, its government, in the most efficient manner; and, to protect the freedom and rights of the citizens.

This first term has been quite enlightening and certainly a challenge. It has been enlightening to see just how state government operates. Equally enlightening has been the sheer volume of legislation that has been introduced during the 128th General Assembly – to date in excess of 500 house bills. That is quite a lot. All are well intentioned, I am sure. Some, in fact, are quite necessary. Yet, there are very few that address what I believe are the State’s most basic problems.

Our nation’s current economic recession has highlighted one of state government’s real problems. It is a problem over which we have much control. It is our lack of fiscal discipline. As a small businessman, it is obvious to me, that when faced with declining revenues caused by economic conditions beyond our control, we must reduce our spending to control our costs – to wring out excess, gain efficiencies and increase productivity. Businesses started doing this many months ago. In the private sector, significant productivity gains are realized during economic downturns, particularly downturns that are caused by excesses.

Quite appropriately, then, the first bill that I have sponsored, HB 396, deals with fiscal discipline. This bill would prohibit the Governor from proposing and the Legislature from enacting a biennial General Revenue Fund (GRF) budget that exceeds 97% of actual GRF revenues received in the previous two years. Any revenues received in excess of the budgeted amount would accrue to the “rainy day fund”. Quite a novel idea: spend less than you reasonably expect to receive and save the rest to protect yourself!

It is not rocket science. There are no complex calculations, just a simple, straight forward, common sense approach. In fact, it might just be too simple to be taken seriously. I suspect the real concerns about HB 396 are simply that it requires tremendous political courage to enact a bill that would immediately reduce spending. Believe me, these are difficult decisions to make in the private sector, as well, but economic survival dictates that they must be made.

In a very positive sense, HB 396 would force government to review, justify and prioritize its spending. An effort that I believe is long overdue and absolutely necessary. It would serve as an admission that government has grown too fast, become too large, operates beyond its basic purpose and is now a drag on the private sector and the citizens that it intends to serve.

Most importantly, HB 396 would tie the growth of government to the growth of Ohio’s private economy. And this is a much needed benefit of HB 396. Over the past thirteen years, the growth of state government spending has exceeded the growth of Ohio’s private economy, as measured by Gross Domestic Private Product, by 15%. I believe most rational citizens would agree that a growth rate of government spending that exceeds the growth of the general economy that must support it is unsustainable.

For more information, please visit my website at <a

While Prosecutor, I slashed plea bargaining, successfully prosecuted rapists, established a welfare fraud unit, and cut my net budget.

I carried my passion for protecting Ohioans throughout my career. I served in the Ohio State Senate, where I wrote Ohio’s first tough drunk driving law, as well as a mandatory sentencing bill for repeat and violent offenders and tougher laws for those who use a gun in the commission of a crime. I then served four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, where I wrote into law a measure to protect child victims in Federal Court.

As Ohio’s Lieutenant Governor, I was in charge of the Governor’s criminal justice agenda. I took the lead in improving the parole system to target the most dangerous offenders. I also worked to bring drug treatment and work programs to the state’s prison system.

In the U.S. Senate, I promoted the emerging DNA technology, helping to expand a truly national database for DNA, fingerprint, and ballistics information, so that violent offenders — no matter where they traveled — could be caught and prosecuted.

In addition to experience, we need leadership in the Ohio Attorney General’s office. Our economy is in shambles, and there are streets in this state where our citizens are justifiably afraid to walk.

As Attorney General, I will fight to bring jobs back to Ohio by creating a safe, corruption-free, business-friendly environment. Jobs simply don’t come to states where there is high crime, government misconduct, and an eagerness to sue and regulate.

Ohio needs to completely rethink how we do everything. It is time to fundamentally reform state government and finally make the real changes this state needs to grow, innovate, and prosper. The Attorney General’s office is one of the keys to this change. I will provide the strong leadership this office needs to reinvigorate Ohio and get us headed back in the right direction.

My entire career has prepared me for this job. As Greene County Prosecutor, I first truly understood the pain and anguish of crime victims. I have always carried that with me, standing up for children and families and law and order.

As Ohio Attorney General, my top priorities will be:

Overhauling the state’s crime lab, the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to increase evidence testing and analysis times.

Creating a business climate in Ohio that encourages the creation and growth of jobs in Ohio.

Cleaning up corruption at all levels of Ohio government. For example, it took the current Attorney General’s office 14 months to respond to corruption charges in Cuyahoga County, even though reports of wrong-doing had been widely discussed in the Plain Dealer newspaper. As Attorney General, I will act quickly and deliberately to root out corruption.

I will be the watchdog and the protector of our state. And, I will bring to the Attorney General’s office the passion, determination, vision, and leadership we need to get Ohio back on track.

Candidate Profile: Representative Peggy Lehner

Candidates

General

Candidate

Peggy Lehner

Mike Turner was elected to represent Ohio’s Third Congressional District in 2002 after more than a decade in public service, including two terms as mayor of Dayton. Mike has built a reputation as a leader and strong advocate for his community.

Mike is a life long resident of the Dayton area. Mike and his wife, Lori, have been married for over 20 years and have two daughters, Jessica and Carolyn. Mike built a successful legal career in private practice and became Dayton’s first Republican mayor in 25 years in 1993 and won reelection in 1997.

In this session of Congress, Mike voted twice against the President’s misguided government takeover of healthcare and also strongly opposed the expensive Cap and Trade legislation. Congressman Turner also sought to protect our nation’s bottom line by opposing the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, the $800 billion stimulus and the bailout of General Motors.

While in Congress, Mike has served on the important House Armed Services Committee (HASC). He has worked to increase the profile of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and to help protect the important missions and over 20,000 jobs at Wright-Patt. Mike was a leader during the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process in 2005 when both jobs and regional development funds were at risk. Mike Turner helped lead a successful community effort to protect these valuable assets, resulting in the addition of 1,000 new jobs and $413 million in expected total funding for the base.

Mike has made protecting our men and women in uniform a priority during his time in Congress. He has fought for improved health care for America’s veterans and worked to protect the custodial rights of deployed military parents. Mike understands the sacrifices made by the men and women in our armed forces, and works hard to make sure that the government protects them during and after their service. He has also visited our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan every year to make certain they have the resources they need to accomplish their mission.

Supporting local business has also been an important part of Mike’s work in Washington. He has voted for legislation which allows families to keep more of the money they earn, and has voted repeatedly to lower taxes, which boosts the economy and adds jobs.

In the 111th congress, as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Mr. Turner was named the Ranking Member on the Strategic Forces Subcommittee. Education reform is a crucial component of our work in the Statehouse, and at the center of recent discussions is Governor Strickland’s all-day kindergarten mandate.

The governor’s education plan contains this $200 million mandate that will put many school districts at risk, especially at a time when funding was shaved by $32 million. His provision to force every Ohio school district to offer all-day kindergarten starting in the 2010-2011 school year has received criticisms from many local boards of education; with the reduction in school funding, they will not be able to accommodate the new mandated expenses without making cuts elsewhere-which may mean cuts to other important programs, like extracurricular activities or transportation services.

Here in the 38th House District, our schools will be hit hard by these unfunded mandates. Centerville schools will need 15 more classrooms with 15 additional teachers, which could easily total at least a million dollars each year.

If Ohio’s leaders are serious about improving our state’s education system, they need to provide a stable source of funding to help schools adjust to new regulations. And if state assistance is not available, then individual districts should have the right to be exempt from the mandates based on their budgetary constraints.

To give school districts the right to opt out of all-day kindergarten, I cosponsored House Bill 366 to allow school district boards of education to exempt their districts from unfunded mandates, including the requirement to provide all-day kindergarten. If passed, this measure will return control over expensive mandates back to the school districts, especially when so many are already struggling to make ends meet.

It is important to remember that as state lawmakers, we were sent to Columbus to serve the people back home. Pushing through damaging mandates that will hurt our schools is irresponsible to those who have entrusted us to lead Ohio. I hope that the House majority will move quickly on this common sense legislation for the sake of Ohio’s schools.

Kay Wick Becomes New Member of the Board of Elections

General
<guid

The half truths and innuendo are not worth repeating. In fact, none of the television media outlets in our community have reported on this story. The reason you may not be aware of the attacks on the Sheriff is because there is no story. Sheriff Plummer is performing his duties in an honest and ethical manner – - that’s the real story.

Our initial reaction was to call a news conference and respond to the newspaper; however, we decided that to perpetuate the misleading information did not best serve our community.

The Montgomery County Republican Party will continue to support our elected officials and hold the media accountable. We are currently engaged in a fact finding mission for the benefit of our candidates and leaders as a result of the recent articles. Stay tuned.

If you are as frustrated as I am with how our elected Republican leaders are treated in the media, please join us in the fight. We need volunteers to help campaign and get our message out. Come to our upcoming Lincoln/Reagan dinner and submit your contact information to volunteer.

Phil Plummer is serving our community and doing an excellent job as Sheriff. He is doing this at a time when our County Commission is repeatedly cutting his budget. Sheriff Plummer and his Deputies are working 24 – 7 to protect our community and keep us safe. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service law enforcement agency with more than 466 employees and an annual budget exceeding thirty-six million dollars.

I am proud that the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office holds national accreditation from the <<a

His career began when he joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in 1988 as a corrections officer assigned to the Jail Division. He was later promoted to the position of deputy sheriff where he worked as a patrol deputy. Upon his promotion to the rank of Sergeant, he held assignments as a supervisor in the Communication Center, and the Road Patrol section, and as the SWAT Team leader.

In November of 2000, he was promoted to the rank of Major and assumed Command of the Operations Division. In January 2004, he was placed in charge of the Personnel Office where he was responsible of human resources and labor relations and in March 2005 he was promoted to the rank of Chief Deputy (Second in Command.) Phil has dedicated his professional life to serving the residents of Montgomery County.

Sheriff Plummer is a native of Montgomery County. He graduated from Chaminade-Julienne High School, and earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Toledo and a Bachelor of Science in Management (Business) from the University of Phoenix. In 2003 he graduated from the FBI National Academy.

If you read articles or blogs that negatively and unfairly attack our Sheriff or other Republicans, write a letter to the editor and voice your opinion or comment on the blog to show your support for our Republican team.

Thank you,<br

I wish I could report that if the national economic crisis eases that Ohio’s financial crisis could turn out to be a short term problem, but unfortunately that is not the case. In order to put Ohio back on a true road to recovery the General Assembly is going to have to come together in a bi-partisan way to reevaluate our priorities, examine how we do business and seek out creative new approaches to systems that perhaps served us well in the past but are no longer cost effective.

Many people seem to believe this can be done by simply shrinking the size of government but even the most aggressive proposals to do that will not come close to filling the budget gaps. Others may propose raising taxes, expanding gambling or a variety of other revenue producing measures. Bottom line however is that those states that prosper have the lowest tax rates and no state has realized sustainable growth via slot machines.

It is my belief that the only route to a sustainable state government is to aggressively prioritize those services that we consider most important and then figure out the most cost effective way to provide those services. Government cannot be all things for all people but those services that are essential must be delivered as cost effectively as possible this is certainly not how the state operates at this point.

For example, the state spends approximately 23% of its budget on Medicaid-almost $13 billion each year. 70% of those dollars are spent on seniors and the disabled although these populations represent only represent 22% of the Medicaid caseload. A substantial portion of that 70% -nearly $4 billion-is spent on long term health care. The average cost of nursing home care for one year is $65,000. The average cost of providing home health care for one year is approximately $20,000 and is the appropriate and preferred option for a significant number of seniors. Yet Ohio continues to rank near the bottom of the states in its nursing home vs. home health care ratio. Because of budget cuts this past summer to the Medicaid Home health care program (PASSPORT) we have a growing waiting list of seniors seeking home care while we continue to unnecessarily spend billions on nursing home care. If we could just match the average national ratio we could save $1 billion per year or $2 billion per budget cycle. If we managed to rank the best in the country (Oregon) we save up to $4 billion per budget cycle….no small savings (Note: As a comparison, Republican proposals to dramatically reduce the size of state government are projected to just save $2 billion per budget cycle).

This month I will be introducing legislation that expands Ohio’s Home First program. Ohio currently limits the number of home heath slot it provides through Medicaid. However by federal law it cannot limit the number of nursing home slots so the only option for many seniors is to enter a nursing home. Home First is a program that is designed to move a nursing home patient into home health care.-unfortunately at the moment they have to actually be in a nursing home first in order to qualify. The bill I am sponsoring with considerable bi-partisan support will allow a senior who has been determined to need immediate nursing home level of care to bypass the requirement that they must first enter a nursing home and immediately qualify for home health care….regardless of where they are on the PASSPORT waiting list. If you are scratching your head trying to figure out how our current system makes any sense you are not alone but it is a perfect example of how considerable savings can be realized by just rethinking how we are provide services. This is only a first step in changing our nursing home/home health care ratio but it is an important first step.

Ohio can return to prosperity and we can do it in a way that maintains a high quality of life for our citizens. However we must be willing to challenge old ways of doing things and be willing to try new and innovative ideas. We must be willing to borrow great ideas from others and quit worrying about whether the Republicans or the Democrats get credit.

If you have an idea that you think can help turn around Ohio please share it… I would love to hear from you. My Columbus office phone number is (614) 644-6008. <A

And that is now to be Ohio’s next auditor”, said Rep. Seth Morgan.

Rep. Christmas and the New Year always bring with them hope, thoughts of renewal, and reflections on priorities. While these sentiments are always helpful, they are especially needful for our Country and State as was most evidenced by recent actions in both Columbus and Washington D.C.

Columbus and Washington had a special gift in mind for the people this Christmas season. The stockings Columbus and Washington hung from our family room mantles contained gifts wrapped in very shiny foil but when unwrapped, were merely lumps of coal.

Washington’s gift of coal came in the Christmas Eve Senate passage of “health care reform”. This measure, clearing yet another hurdle, represents a Washington dedicated to policies that will destroy the free fabric that made our society great.

From the Statehouse, the lump of coal left for Ohioans wasn’t much better. After vowing not to raise taxes, Governor Strickland went back on his word and proposed a tax increase to balance his troubled budget. His double talk should not have surprised us given he first tried to fix his budget this summer with a gambling scheme after also promising not to expand gambling. This budget “fix” was nothing more than the Ohio “leader”ship kicking the can further down the road, setting up a daunting $7-9 billion dollar projected budget hole for the next biennium. So much for protecting the people’s money; so much for efficiency; so much for leadership.

No instead of leading, the legislators and Governor who supported this plan abdicated their responsibilities – choosing instead to hide behind threats of what might happen all while they took the easy route of taking more of your money. They proved their unwillingness to right-size government, give bipartisan attention to the billions of dollars of ideas we had placed on the table, or cooperate with us as we explored real ways to repair and resurface the road we are on… not just patch the pothole.

If I sound frustrated – you bet I am and so should you be. While, we all know the amazing political turnaround that appears to be coming thanks to Washington and Columbus’ failed policies and the incredible good group of candidates we have statewide, it doesn’t change the opportunity we have to take note of what is happening right now. As the father of three very young children, regardless of what happens in 2010 and 2012, I am greatly concerned with your and my futures, let alone my children’s.

If we are to win this war of ideas, we must return to the ideas our founders were largely committed to. Raising taxes in an otherwise already high tax State like Ohio is not bad just because it is bad for the economy; although it is. It’s not bad just because it is short-sighted, although it is. Raising taxes is bad for Ohioans because it allows government to expand its power and size – we are Republicans, and like our founders, we believe in a small government – not just because it keeps more money in our pockets – but more importantly because it keeps the power and influence of the government limited, and leaves the financial success of this Nation in the informed decision making of the American people – not through government picking winners and losers.

Likewise, government run healthcare is not just bad for the quality of healthcare or an economic model that will collapse under itself, although both of these attributes are true. Rather government run healthcare, cheaper or not, is an attack on the individual liberties we hold dear and an expansion of government that is unconstitutional. We’ve not had a true free market health care system since I can remember – any solutions we explore should be focused on providing a fair play ground, with economic parity and free market pressures.

These are just two recent examples, but we must frame the debates we have with our neighbors and friends around the truths our founders understood – not the circumstantial issues of the day – we are about liberty, limited government, checks and balances, and the mutual dependence between self rule and freedom. We must insist that these concepts are how we measure our leaders, what we teach our children about America, and the context in which we debate the issues of our day.

During this time of renewal, we must renew our understanding of the foundational principles upon which our liberty, prosperity, and futures were built. Regardless of our excellent opportunities in 2010 as a Party, nothing is more important to our future as a State and Country as to have political leaders, buoyed by informed people that require commitment to the root principles our founders understood so well.

Your team will continue to fight for these American principles in the State House – I only pray for more to labor with us. I encourage you to contact me if we can be of assistance in any way.

In the service of liberty,<br

Rhonda’s dad, Ted, along with a very Republican high school history teacher, influenced her at a young age on the importance of conservative values. While Rhonda was pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, she was fortunate enough to develop a close relationship with her Marketing Professor, Kay Wick. In 2004, Rhonda interned with Kay and Carl for the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign for Montgomery County. Soon thereafter she moved to Columbus to work at the Ohio House of Representatives under Speaker Jon Husted. Rhonda attributes much of her “fun” in politics to meeting Kay.

In 2006, Rhonda returned to Dayton to pursue her MBA in International Business and is currently employed as a marketing consultant at InterbrandDesignForum here in Dayton. Recently engaged, Rhonda is set to be married to Matt Hiatt, who is an Egress Mechanic on the F-16 fighter jets at the Springfield Air Force Base.

Rhonda is very excited to be leading the Montgomery County Young Republicans and encourages those young or young at heart people who are eager to restore value to the country to get involved with the group. The YR’s meet on the second Monday of every month at the BW3’s at Town and Country in Kettering. “Just after the election and young professionals started to realize how much the new administration could affect their futures, many people have been coming to join our cause; each meeting we grow!” Rhonda comments about the recent growth in membership of the club. “We have a following on Facebook, Twitter and are trying to get our message out to the young people in the area.”

The group meets to discuss politics, whether that be to debate an issue or gain clarity around current events and how the administration is responding. The YR’s also like to have fun! “We have a lot of fun events throughout the year from Wine Tastings to Pub Crawls- we are serious about the cause, but also like to get out and have fun. A lot of solid friendships develop from meeting people in the club.”

Rhonda has hopes of running for office sometime in the next few years and is excited about all of the possibilities for the Dayton region’s future. “Dayton has had to deal with some very tough times recently, but the people who live here have a generosity of spirit and commitment to family that will never let this region disappear. With the right leadership and selfless dedication we can provide our young people with hope and pride for the place we call home.”

You can contact the Montgomery County Young Republicans at <a

He understands that our great state is hurting, and believes we can do better. As our next governor, John wants to work together with all Ohioans to make a difference for our future and develop common sense solutions that will bring jobs and prosperity back to Ohio’s families.

Known for his straightforward style and boundless energy, John was elected to the Ohio State Senate at the age of 26 and to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982 at the age of 30.

As a nine-term Congressman, John played major leadership roles in a variety of groundbreaking achievements. Driven by a belief that government should not live beyond its means, John worked as Chairman of the House Budget Committee to construct the plan that balanced the federal budget for the first time since man first walked on the moon. At first the naysayers said it couldn’t be done, then they said it shouldn’t be done, then they said it wouldn’t be done. But John, working with a team of other leaders, proved them all wrong. Together they balanced the budget, provided for the largest government surplus our country has ever seen, and opened the door for an era of tremendous job growth and prosperity.

As a business leader John has worked to understand what makes businesses successful, and has helped companies in a wide variety of industries nationwide to grow, invest for the future and create jobs.

His leadership in Washington and his ability to communicate powerfully and effectively have given John a broad platform to shape public opinion as a commentator, appearing on virtually every major network and cable news show. He has also hosted a national weekly news show called “Heartland with John Kasich,” which allowed him to provide a uniquely Midwestern perspective to news from around the nation and world.

You can visit John’s campaign website at <A

Among the hotly contested aspects of the proposal are: fee increases totaling more than $1.5 billion on almost all Ohioans; a new K-12 education plan; and the use of $7 billion of borrowed and one-time money (creating a revenue hole equal to 15 percent of the overall budget).

As a member of the Senate Education Committee, I listened to the many Ohioans who testified in opposition to the Strickland education spending plan. The Governor’s “evidence based plan” is unfunded, unsustainable and serves as a false promise to Ohio schools. Further, it would effectively close all charter schools within two years – 88,000 students’ school choice options would be eliminated. Even Democrats in the legislature acknowledge that the Governor’s education plan does not provide the required funding for its ten year rollout.

The Republican controlled Senate recently countered with a balanced budget that removes all 139 earmarks and cuts more than $650 million in spending on state government. A balanced budget that does not raise taxes – this is the Republican way.

On another note, as I prepare to become Ohio’s next Secretary of State, I have also introduced legislation to change Ohio’s redistricting process – the way Ohio draws its legislative district boundaries. Currently, the party that controls two of three statewide elected offices – Governor, Secretary of State or Auditor – draws district boundaries that are in place for the next decade. I am seeking to replace the winner take all system with a bi-partisan commission to draw legislative and congressional district lines. We must discontinue the system that allows politicians to pick the voters rather than allowing the voters to pick their public officials.

These issues and the mounting job losses Ohioans are experiencing have me working overtime to find solutions. It will include a grand finale and more,” said Rob Scott, founder of the Dayton Tea Party. “We are having a kids area as well. This truly is going to be a family event with good music, activities and fellowship.”

Also, The Dayton Tea Party unveiled their revamped Web site that includes community forums, blogs and more. Additionally, the Dayton Tea Party is beginning community meet ups at local restaurants, coffee shops and libraries to discuss issues.

The April 15 event drew more than 8,000 in downtown Dayton at Courthouse Square. “The Tax Day Rally was amazing. We had a great crowd and amazing speakers.”

The Dayton Tea Party is a non-profit corporation that is a grassroots and nonpartisan group opposed to wasteful government spending. Time and time again, I heard the same message from folks throughout the state: they are frustrated that while our economy is hurting and families are tightening their belts, our government continues to over-spend.

I believe that, to change the direction of our state, we need new leaders who believe in good old-fashioned values like honesty, hard work and fiscal responsibility. I learned these timeless values from my family and they were reinforced in me by the Marine Corps. I have carried them with me throughout my life, and I will work day and night to honor them in my service to you as State Treasurer.

My most important duty as Treasurer will be to protect the hard-earned dollars of every Ohioan. I have a proven record of standing up for Ohio’s taxpayers, including spearheading one of the only municipal tax rollbacks in the State’s history as a City Councilman. As State Representative, I helped reform the investment oversight structure for the scandal-ridden Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

I began my previous campaigns for office by campaigning door-to-door in lake-effect snow storms and by promising my supporters that I will never be outworked. My strategy for this race is no different – I promise to run a high-energy grassroots campaign, utilizing technology and engaging the young and the old alike. I hope you will consider joining our team today by making a contribution, signing up to volunteer, or by forwarding this message to your friends.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,

Josh Mandel

You can visit Josh’s campaign website at Our platform is the foundation of our identity, yet we failed to uphold its principles year after year. We cannot win elections unless we restore the public trust in our leadership, and we cannot restore that trust without fidelity in our core values.

Develop a broad policy agenda
To often, voters identify Republicans with what we’re against rather than what we’re for. The 2008 elections offered more of the same. We delivered constant criticism of our opponents without presenting a clear, convincing alternative to their ideas. Republicans need bold, thoughtful solutions on a broad-based agenda that addresses today’s concerns. We need to be thinkers, leaders, and problem solvers, not just critics. And our solutions must be based on the foundations of our Republican ideology.

Build beyond our traditional base
We lost every major demographic group in this past election. We need a consistent outreach program to establish a day-to-day relationship with every key voter bloc – youth, seniors, values voters, sportsmen, veterans, business leaders, unions, Latinos, African Americans, independents and others. Statistics prove you simply cannot win elections with only Republican voters. We should embrace ideas such as the “40 under 40” proposal challenging our party leaders to fill 40 percent of our open, non-incumbent races with candidates under the age of 40.

Re-engage the middle class
Our party once carried the middle-class suburban voters by two-to-one. In this election we tied. Democrats found their resurgence, in part, by offering an agenda with an eye on middle-class families, not Wall Street tycoons. Families are struggling under the weight of the worst economy in generations, and our worn-out rhetoric on taxes falls short of addressing deep concerns about lost jobs, shrinking investments, home foreclosures, and, of course skyrocketing health care. Republicans do not believe government is the solution to every problem, but our reputation has many voters believing we simply don’t care about their problems. Republicans will not win the crucial middle-class if we fail to provide clear and convincing solutions.

Connect on campuses
According to exit polls, Barack Obama won Ohio voters under 30 by 25 percent, leaving the Grand Old Party to look a lot like its middle name. Research proves that voters are more likely to establish a long-term identify with a political party after voting with that party in two or more elections. Simply put, we are loosing a generation of new Republican voters.

Develop advanced voter contact programs
On program that needs our attention is voter registration. More than one out of five eligible Americans is unregistered, thousands of unregistered Republicans live here in Montgomery County. Some have recently moved here, while others have simply failed to update their registration records. We must work collaboratively with the Ohio Republican Party and our coalition groups to make voter registration a priority. We now have the tools to use advanced microtargeting data to identify likely Republicans who are unregistered. We need the focus, the discipline, and the coordination to sign them up. We need to harness the power of the internet to give our activists more resources and to get them organized and help them take action where they are-without forcing them into a phone bank or to a Victory Center just to get involved.

Utilize new technology to improve message delivery
The Obama campaign used everything from the iPhone to Facebook to reach people beyond the traditional methods. They understood the value of reaching directly through new technology, whether by text messaging, e-mail, social network sites, or online advertising. On the contrary, many of our Republican candidates have no idea how to use new technology. We failed to organize our volunteer base. Technology is rapidly changing, and we must adapt.

Create a comprehensive political education program
We cannot expect our candidates, party leaders, campaign managers and volunteers to compete effectively without a solid understanding of how to win. From basic instruction on fundraising and campaign finance law to party management and voter contact strategies, we must provide a comprehensive series of ongoing training programs designed to cultivate a skilled, experienced Republican team at every level.

Improve candidate recruitment
One of the party’s fundamental responsibilities is fielding strong, qualified, electable candidates. Recruitment must be a constant priority. We must place a greater emphasis on recruiting a farm team that is constantly being cultivated. We also need smart recruitment. Democrats have discovered that running candidates who look like the district win elections. At least one third of the Democrats serving in the Ohio House consider themselves pro-life, and many more espouse pro-gun, pro-family views. This proves that Ohioans, even Democrat districts, are willing to elect candidates with conservative social values who offer a broad, positive agenda on the issues they care most about.

Enforce a zero tolerance policy for misconduct
Our party historically upheld the highest standard for ethics and morality in government, but most voters know us better for our hypocrisy. Not an election goes by without a major scandal involving a prominent Republican figure. We cannot continue to campaign on a higher standard of government if we fail to uphold it, so we must adopt a zero tolerance policy for any candidate or elected official who crosses the line.
