Volunteer of the Month: Rhonda Borgerding

Rhonda Borgerding, who is the current Chair of the Montgomery County Young Republicans, is a Dayton native and two-time Wright State University grad. Rhonda’s dad, Ted, along with a very Republican high school history teacher, influenced her at a young age on the importance of conservative values. While Rhonda was pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, she was fortunate enough to develop a close relationship with her Marketing Professor, Kay Wick. In 2004, Rhonda interned with Kay and Carl for the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign for Montgomery County. Soon thereafter she moved to Columbus to work at the Ohio House of Representatives under Speaker Jon Husted. Rhonda attributes much of her “fun” in politics to meeting Kay.

In 2006, Rhonda returned to Dayton to pursue her MBA in International Business and is currently employed as a marketing consultant at InterbrandDesignForum here in Dayton. Recently engaged, Rhonda is set to be married to Matt Hiatt, who is an Egress Mechanic on the F-16 fighter jets at the Springfield Air Force Base.

Rhonda is very excited to be leading the Montgomery County Young Republicans and encourages those young or young at heart people who are eager to restore value to the country to get involved with the group. The YR’s meet on the second Monday of every month at the BW3’s at Town and Country in Kettering. “Just after the election and young professionals started to realize how much the new administration could affect their futures, many people have been coming to join our cause; each meeting we grow!” Rhonda comments about the recent growth in membership of the club. “We have a following on Facebook, Twitter and are trying to get our message out to the young people in the area.”

The group meets to discuss politics, whether that be to debate an issue or gain clarity around current events and how the administration is responding. The YR’s also like to have fun! “We have a lot of fun events throughout the year from Wine Tastings to Pub Crawls- we are serious about the cause, but also like to get out and have fun. A lot of solid friendships develop from meeting people in the club.”

Rhonda has hopes of running for office sometime in the next few years and is excited about all of the possibilities for the Dayton region’s future. “Dayton has had to deal with some very tough times recently, but the people who live here have a generosity of spirit and commitment to family that will never let this region disappear. With the right leadership and selfless dedication we can provide our young people with hope and pride for the place we call home.”
